Career Planning Guide

Today you will begin your practice in obtaining a job position in a career of interest to you. This practice is one you will go through many times throughout your life. Second year Work Experience students: scroll down to the bottom for today's assignment.

The first step is to choose a career that fits your needs, interests, and skills. Completing an assessment can help you choose a career that is right for you. Assessments are a way to learn about yourself and to help you pinpoint characteristics that can be applied to certain job positions. For example, if you like to organize numbers, do puzzles, work inside, and help others you may work well as a bookkeeper or accountant.

• Click on Planning Center Tab (at the top)
  
• Click on Career Planner (link on the left)
  
• Click on Career Planner checklist, type your name and PRINT
  
• Take the Self-Assessment survey from the Exploration Center tab
  • 40 Questions, try to be as accurate as possible to get the best results
  • Type your name at the end and PRINT result
    
• Click on a career that may interest you from the results list
  • You may search for another career if the one you are interested in is not on the list
    • Use the Quick Search link, then click on Occupations and type in the career you want
• Print out the Occupation Profile (it may be 2-3 pages)

TURN IN Four THINGS TODAY (in this order):
1. Career Planner Checklist
2. Assessment Results
3. Career Profile
4. A short paragraph on how you feel about these results and what occupational path you will follow.

Second Year Students:

Write a detailed plan describing the steps you will take to get the position of your dreams. Utilize Coin3 to get college and/or training information.
